I got this idea from Anthropologie and Nordstrom and created these earrings for a fraction of the price.
I saw these style of earrings a few different places and decided to make my own. I got most of the supplies on Etsy, where I get most of my craft supplies these days.
– Pale blue ostrich feathers from Decorating Studio – they come attached to a ribbon to be used as trim.
– Bead caps from First Blush Brass
– Ear Wires also from First Blush Brass
– Tacky Glue
– Scotch Tape
If you want the feathers to be blunt cut like the Nordstrom earrings, it’s probably better to leave them attached to the ribbon, although that might make the cluster of feathers too thick. How I did it: I put Scotch tape around the bead cap so that glue wouldn’t come out. Then I rolled the ribbon up a bit to make a cluster of feathers. Then, holding the cluster well, I cut the *tops* of the feathers so that they were a good length, like 3 inches. I cut the tops so that the bottoms could be natural. I think it’s a good idea to then put tape around the top, but I can’t remember if I did that or not with the pictured earrings. Then I just glued the feathers in with a good amount of tacky glue. After a day or so I removed the tape around the bead caps and put them on the ear wires. Voila!
If you want to add connectors like on the Anthropologie ones, just search Etsy for agate connectors or druzy connectors. There are about a million. You will also need jump rings. Good luck!
